[Hotspot Highlight] Get a relaxing pottery lesson from a model: Guy Vadas opens Ceramiques in Elsternwick, Melbourne
Posted on 18 April 2018
Mr. Men’s crossed paths with Guy Vadas (@guy.vadas) at the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF) where he walked the GQ runway. Guy is highly respected in the melbourne fashion scene for his friendliness and warmth towards others. We were so impressed by his humbleness, kindness and passion that we had to get to know him better. Not only did we find out that Guy was quickly establishing himself as a model, but he was also opening a new store Ceramiques that encompasses his passion for ceramics.
Guy’s Career in Fashion
Guy’s pathway to fashion was an interesting one. Not always fascinated by the fashion industry, Guy only discovered the possibility of becoming a model when he was approached by model managers at his workplace. Guy hadn’t even considered becoming a model until then. In this time, Guy was also approached by a photographer for a photo shoot. The photos caught the attention of the industry and since then Guy has been a trending image on the Melbourne Fashion scene, appearing in both GQ and Harper’s Bazaar runways as well as a variety of photo shoots and social media releases.
Guy made it clear that what he likes most about working fashion shows is the camaraderie that he shares backstage with the other models, as well as the adrenaline rush he gets from walking the runway.
WHILE GUY KEEPS A KEEN EYE ON THE FASHION INDUSTRY, HE NOW SPENDS MOST OF HIS TIME DEVELOPING HIS NEW BOUTIQUE STUDIO CERAMIQUES.
GUY’S PASSION FOR CERAMICS BEGAN TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO WHEN HE STARTED EXPERIMENTING WITH HANDMADE CERAMICS. TOGETHER WITH A CLOSE FRIEND, GUY WOULD VISIT A KNOWLEDGABLE ELDERLY NEIGHBOUR WHO WOULD TEACH THEM THE BASICS OF HANDMADE CERAMICS WHILE THEY DRANK TEA, ATE BISCUITS AND TALKED ABOUT BRIDGE. AFTER FINDING HIMSELF RETURN TO THE HOME OF THIS KIND NEIGHBOUR TIME AND TIME AGAIN, GUY COULDN’T INITIALLY COME TO TERMS WITH WHY HE ENJOYED CERAMICS SO MUCH. HE JUST DID.
A YEAR LATER HE UNDERWENT A PROFESSIONAL CERAMICS COURSE TO DEVELOP HIS SKILLS. AND A YEAR AFTER THAT HE WENT TO INDIA, WHERE HE FOUND HIMSELF TELLING PEOPLE THAT HE WOULD OPEN A POTTERY STUDIO WHEN HE RETURNED TO MELBOURNE. UPON HIS RETURN, HE STARTED TEACHING AT HIS HOME AND ALL WHO PARTICIPATED LOVED IT. EVERYONE KEPT COMING BACK AND THE HOME CERAMICS CLASSES GOT BIGGER AND BIGGER. EVENTUALLY, GUY’S FATHER DECIDED THAT HE NEEDED TO CONTINUE HIS CERAMICS PURSUITS OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE. THIS IS WHEN GUY WENT SEARCHING FOR A STUDIO AND FOUND THE SPACE THAT WOULD EVENTUALLY BECOME CERAMIQUES.

WE JOINED GUY AT CERAMIQUES IN ELSTERNWICK Which opened early this year. He invited us down so we could learn more about his new creation. While we talked, Guy gave us AN INSPIRATIONAL CERAMICS DEMONSTRATION.
WHILE MOULDING A FRESH PIECE OF CLAY ON HIS POTTERY WHEEL, GUY TELLS US THAT OFTEN HE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT HE IS MAKING UNTIL HE IS MAKING IT. CERAMICS IS A TRULY CREATIVE PROCESS, CONVERTING A PIECE OF CLAY INTO ART OR A FUNCTIONAL HOME-PIECE REQUIRES CONCENTRATION. GUY ALSO REFERS TO CERAMICS AS MEDITATIVE AND SAYS THAT HE HAS RECENTLY FOUND THE COMBINATION OF CLASSICAL MUSIC AND CERAMICS TO BE THE ULTIMATE CREATIVE, RELAXING AND MEDITATIVE SESSION.
His studio provides A BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED ATMOSPHERE THAT SETS THE UNDERTONE FOR Creativity.
