The countdown is on! From November the 8th to the 25th, the Night Noodle Market will once again land in Birrarung Marr, delighting the city with glorious Asian hawker inspired food from the best restaurants across Melbourne.
Returning this year to dazzle and delight you with their culinary masterpieces include crowd favourites Mr Miyagi, Teppanyaki Noodles, Wonderbao, and The Wagyu, and newcomers in Son in Law, Bao Brothers, and Miso Fresh Food Truck.
We’ve laid out a five-course meal that will be sure to delight any foodie:
Son in Law
If your mother in law makes you these eggs you know you’re in trouble, otherwise, they’re an absolute treat. The story goes that a Thai mother served these as a warning to her son in law who was treating his wife less than respectfully. The message: Treat her right or the next thing that will be deep fried won’t be an egg, if you know what I mean! Deep fried medium boiled eggs topped with red onion, spring onion, fried shallot, and house-made tamarind sauce. Yum!
Aside from having our favourite name, Miso Fresh deliver on quality fresh food again and again, and this year will be no different. The Soba noodles will make a wonderful second course, with mixed salad and edamame, pickled cabbage, seaweed salad, all drizzled with soy sesame sauce. We’re drooling already.
The wait for a table in Mr Miyagi on Saturday night can sometimes lead into the early hours, but the Night Noodle Market lets us forego the queue and try some of the tasty dishes on offer. We cannot wait for the Truffle Wagyu Beef Japa-Dawg. Panko crumbed Wagyu beef cheek, onion jam, black truffle potato puree, truffled Japanese mayo in a soft bao roll. Epic!
It wouldn’t be a Night Noodle market without a skewer. These guys are experts of the Filipino BBQ, try the BBQ chicken skewer with traditional glaze or our favourite, the BBQ pork belly skewer with banana ketchup glaze. Yes, you read that right, banana ketchup glaze! There’s nothing quite like it.
For dessert, we save the best for last. The best ice cream in Melbourne just got a whole lot better. Messina’s Allo’ Allo’! dessert is out of this world. Caramel leche flan, caramel syrup, caramel sauce, toasted milk crumb, caramel shaved ice, evaporated milk and dulce de leche gelato. Truly divine!
In case you’ve never been before, we’ve got you covered. This is a free entry event, and for the first time, it’s cashless, meaning less queueing at ATMs and more time enjoy all the tasty treats on offer. The event is child and dog-friendly so bring the family to enjoy.
