Forget businessmen and baristas. Today, we’re making the bold claim that Australia’s most overlooked fashionistas are our beloved tradies. Sure, businessmen can don a beautiful three-piece, and yes, baristas are cooler than an iced latte, but we nominate the often-overlooked Aussie tradie. That’s right, the hardest working men in Australia are also the trendiest!
Now, bear with us for a second. Yes, we know, fluoros and tool belts don’t quite say high fashion, and just because they can fix things and get paid well doesn’t necessarily make them trendy – but hear us out. Over here at Mr Men’s we can’t help but notice how Aussie tradie’s fashion has been inspiring the general public for decades, and we want to pay tribute!
Fear not, for the uninitiated, with our quick step by step guide, their style is easy to replicate. First, grab yourself a pair of work boots. Everyone has a pair of Chelsea boots these days, they don’t have to be Doc Martens, a pair of slip-ons from K-mart will do just fine. Then, pull some yellow socks up over them. Third, get yourself a nice, shiny flouro vest and add a forever stylish flannel shirt. And finally, to top it all off, the pièce de résistance, shorts so short and revealing they’d make Kendal Jenner blush.
But it’s their outfit that has us talking. They are the loveable rogues of the Australian workforce. Fond of a prank, they may even push the boundaries of what is a prank and what is just plain old mean- but we love a laugh and they are renowned for their workplace humour. And yes, they love a knock-off beer on a Friday just like the rest of us. But they’re on trend too, usually with the latest gadgets and accessories, the coolest sunglasses and latest watches to wrap around their sleeved tattooed wrists, and the fastest and loudest utes money can buy. Yes, our boys are indeed a flash mob.
And it’s not just the tradie outfit. They’re a catch. And why wouldn’t they be!? They get paid well, being strong is part of the job, and they’re usually pretty handy around the house if you can get them to take their work home with them.
Generous to a fault too. The true-blue Aussie tradie is the salt of the earth. If you haven’t seen it already, check out this video, which recently went viral, of a tradie buying the pensioner Maccas and see if your heart doesn’t melt:
And it’s not just the men. These days more and more women are becoming tradies every year, donning the hard hats and fluoro vests. And with that in mind, we can’t help but wonder if the tradie style will infiltrate the women’s wardrobe too? But for now, we must salute you, Aussie tradies. You are the trendiest workforce in Australia, a constant source of fashion inspiration, and great for a laugh too!
