What’s Happening Melbourne – December Edition

Melbourne, welcome to December. What a year it has been. As we close in to the final few weeks of the year, we’ve got Michael Bubble blasting while we divide our time between Christmas-themed markets, carols by candlelight and eagerly searching for Christmas gifts. Like to unwrap further? Loosen your bows as we untie some of the best events kicking off in Melbourne this month.

December 1: GINGERBREAD VILLAGE

Nine years no doe. Don’t mind the pun, Gingerbread Village by Epicure is back in its ninth consecutive year, delivering all the baked good you could ask for while making a great day out for you and the kids. This is a great little event to pop by and raise money funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Stop by, indulge in a few treats and raise a little for those in need.

December 1: CAKE BAKE & SWEET SHOW

Do we smell Christmas in a cupcake? Candied apples, Christmas cake, rum balls and cakes that taste better than they look are all on offer the Cake Bake & Sweets Show. Pop by to discover some of Melbourne’s best in the culinary business as they prepare all your Christmas favourites and more.

December 1: COBURG NIGHT MARKET

This year Coburg’s famous night market is taking shape in a different form: a four-day food, bar, shopping and guitar (playing) festival kicking off early in the afternoon. From hand-made crafts to family events, this year’s round-up is looking rather promising. Pop by for some great DJs and an even better time.

December 5: NIGHTS AT PILGRIM

On the first Thursday of each month the humble crew behind the craft beer, wine and restaurant that is Pilgrim hold a comedy night. Better yet, they let you really warm up with 4:30 pm-6:30 pm happy hour and 10% off all food and drinks consumed during the show. Laughter is some of the best medicine – for our daily troubles that is –  so pop on by, grab a drink and unwind with some of the funnier folk in town.

December 6: KEANU REEVES-A-THON

Lido never fails to provide the goods. Over the last four weeks, they’ve kept us on the edge of our seats with the consecutive Keanu Reeves marathon. Each Friday from 9 pm you can catch the ‘nicest man in Hollywood’ on screen in some of his biggest films to date. Martial arts, sci-fi, riding a horse through traffic, find it all here.

December 7: ALLIANCE FRANCAISE FRENCH CHRISTMAS MARKET

Celebrating all things elegant, the Alliance Française French Christmas Market returns for 2019! Within the annual marché de Noël is arts and crafts, food, drinks and products made from the homeland or French designers living locally. This year you can even learn to your roll your tongue as the French do with trial classes.

December 13: HURSTBRIDGE XMAS TWILIGHT MARKET

From the guys behind the Hurstbridge Farmer’s Market comes a special Christmas edition turning native produce to festive. Find a tonne of great gifts while supporting the local folk who need it in this quaint little spot 40 minutes from the CBD.

December 15: HEIDE CHRISTMAS MARKET

13km northeast of the CBD is the Heide annual Christmas market, a suburban festive oasis feature more than 120 stalls of local good ranging from food to ceramics, clothing, items for the pantry and more. Drop on by and pick up something made locally for your loved ones this year.

December 21: BERWICK CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT

Did you know the humble Christmas tradition of carols by candlelight was actually made popular by our city? Pop by to sing all your Christmas favourites with the quiet folk behind the Rotary Club of Berwick.

December 31: 2020 NYE FIREWORKS

In partnership with The City of Melbourne and Maribyrnong City Council, this year a number of fireworks will be launched across the city as bring in the new year. From a strategic layout of rooftops across the city, the sky will light as we call an end to 2019. Further events and celebrations will be on from Footscray Park to the Mornington Peninsula. In the spirit of giving the team from What’s On Melbourne are offering the chance to win a $300 Woolworths voucher for anyone who clicks interested on Facebook.
